Think of my expertise and good nature as abundant resources, but my time to respond to your emergency as a scarce one. The less of a time commitment you implicitly ask for, the more likely you are to get help from me.
Of course, if your expectation is that I'm going to drop my project Right Now to solve your problem, the likelihood of you getting the finger from me increases exponentially. Or, you may get service with a smile from me this time, and talk to the hand from me for the duration of your tenure here.
